Scaling Sustainable Barefoot Footwear

Supported a fast-growing barefoot shoe start-up committed to sustainability and local European production.

The Challenge

The client was a fast-growing barefoot shoe brand with a strong commitment to sustainability and local European production. As demand increased, they faced challenges in production planning, seasonal scheduling, inventory control, and warehouse efficiency—putting pressure on lead times, product launches, and fulfilment.

Our Strategic Approach

Working closely with production representatives in Portugal, I redesigned the production and inventory planning process to better align with seasonal demand. This included optimised production scheduling and improved material purchasing timelines, ensuring factories remained efficient while supporting on-time launches. In parallel, I reviewed and redesigned the warehouse layout in Germany to support the company’s rapid growth, focusing on streamlining order picking and shipping flows.

Results & Impact
40% improvement in production planning efficiency through optimised scheduling and timely raw material purchasing; Consistently on-time product launches, contributing to highly successful seasonal drops; 20% reduction in picking and ordering time due to improved warehouse layout and processes; Enhanced scalability across production and fulfilment while maintaining the company's sustainability and local sourcing values. The changes enabled the business to grow confidently without compromising on its ethical principles.
